Nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in West-Central Pennsylvania in the small town of Hollidaysburg, Garvey Manor has been providing care and services for the elderly for 50 years. The facility first opened as a skilled nursing home in 1965 with the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm serving in ministry. To meet the changing needs of the elderly in long-term care and to expand the services offered, a new complex was built on the 14 acre site, opening in 2003.
Garvey Manor is designated a Continuing Care Retirement Community providing multiple levels of care in a spacious, graciously furnished, homelike environment on its beautifully landscaped site. The Nursing Home provides skilled nursing and rehabilitation to 132 Residents. Included is the Marian Center for Dementia Care offering dignified care for those with cognitive impairment in an intimate environment with special programming and services. Within the same campus, Our Lady of the Alleghenies Residence offers Personal Care, commonly referred to as Assisted Living to 54 Residents in apartment style suites and Independent Living residential apartments.
Jointly sponsored by the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, Garvey Manor has earned its reputation of being one of the finest long-term care facilities in Pennsylvania. The care and services given throughout all levels of care are based on Venerable Mary Angeline’s philosophy of “clasping the hand of an aged person and giving meaning to the autumn of life.” In the Facility’s Catholic atmosphere, staffed by Sisters, and dedicated lay persons and volunteers, the Mission “To promote and provide personal and professional quality of care in an atmosphere which reflects Christ’s love, care and concern for the elderly is lived out everyday. Dignity, hospitality, privacy, individuality, security, holistic and pastoral services are hallmark values addressing the sanctity and quality of life of the residents. At Garvey Manor, seniors come to live a fuller and more complete life in a loving, community setting.
