On the Road!

The North American Carmelite Symposium opened on June 28, 2015 at Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois.  Some members of The Mother Angeline Society Cause and Charism Committee seized this great opportunity to hit the road and attend this gathering of Carmelites celebrating the 5th Centenary of the Birth of Saint Teresa of Avila. Jubilee 2015

On June 6, 2015, nine Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm celebrated their 50th, 60th and 70th religious jubilees.  The event was held at the Chapel of Saint Teresa’s Motherhouse in Germantown, New York.  The day was perfect for such a joyous occasion and the beauty of Avila-on-Hudson was ever at its best.  The principal celebrant was Rev. David Simpson, O.Carm. Also present at the altar were Very Rev. Mario Esposito, O.Carm, Rev. Joseph Nguyen Do, O.Carm., Rev. Joseph Finch and Rev. Pope Francis recently declared 2015 to be a year dedicated to consecrated life. By doing so, he wishes to highlight “beauty and preciousness of this unique form of Christian discipleship”. There are many forms of consecrated life: cloistered nuns, active sisters, hermits, consecrated virgins, teaching brothers, lay missionaries,etc, but one thing they all have in common is a sincere desire to respond to an invitation God has placed in their heart. And if you were to ask any of these sisters, priests or brothers about their vocation, I think that most would say that they are humbled that God would choose someone as weak and sinful as themselves to carry out His will. Blessing of Mother Angeline Heritage Center

On May 16, 2015 The Mother Angeline Heritage Center was blessed by The Most Rev. Howard J. Hubbard, D.D. The event was attended by the Carmelite Sisters General Council, both past and present, the Project Team responsible for the design and construction of the Center, and the artists whose work in glass, stone and wood captured the life of Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa, her companions, and the heritage of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm. Ireland Honors Mother Angeline

On October 24, 2014, Archbishop Eamon Martin performed the unveiling of a new shrine at saint Brigid’s Church in Brocagh honoring Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory, O.Carm.  In 1893, Mother Angeline was baptized in the Co. Tyrone Church and lived in the village until she was seven years old.  The baptismal font bearing a plaque with the inscription of the date of Mother’s baptism, and the shrine with a portrait of Mother Angeline was blessed during the celebration of the Mass.
